Trump Signals Possible Intensification of US-Iran Conflict Amid Tehran’s Retaliation Threats

Amid rising tensions in West Asia, U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated the possibility of escalating military action against Iran. He emphasized that the United States remains committed to preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons and warned that further military measures could be taken. This comes as Iran has threatened to expand its retaliatory attacks to include military facilities and civilian infrastructure in neighboring countries if the U.S. and Israel resume their strikes.

During a press briefing on Thursday, Trump stated that the U.S. had already significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities. He expressed optimism about the conflict’s resolution, suggesting that oil and gasoline prices would decrease once hostilities conclude. The conflict, which began in late February, has not only heightened regional tensions but also disrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital channel for global oil and gas shipments. This has led to increased concerns about security and energy supplies in the region.

Iran’s threats of broader retaliation include potential strikes on American military bases, airports, and pipelines in the region. Earlier in the conflict, Iranian attacks reportedly damaged U.S. military facilities and diplomatic sites, including installations in Bahrain, and affected energy and industrial infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, as well as airports in Dubai, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has cautioned that renewed military actions could endanger civilian lives, regional stability, and the global economy.

Military assessments indicate that Iran maintains a significant ballistic missile capability and may be working to restore production using existing components and underground facilities. Meanwhile, the United States, Israel, and regional partners are contending with pressure on their air-defense supplies amid ongoing security challenges.

Efforts toward a diplomatic resolution remain stalled, with the conflict continuing to pose threats to global energy markets and international shipping around the Strait of Hormuz. Trump’s warning of further military action, coupled with Tehran’s promise of expansive retaliation, has intensified uncertainty about the conflict’s next phase. Any renewed escalation could have far-reaching implications for regional security, civilian infrastructure, and international oil prices.
