“I think it’s going to work out,” President Donald Trump said of his upcoming showdown with Chinese President Xi Jinping, striking a simple, confident tone.
The “big meeting” is set for Thursday in South Korea, during the APEC summit. Speaking from Tokyo, Trump elaborated, “I think it’s going to work out very well, actually.”
His confidence comes despite a new trade flare-up. The US has threatened 100% tariffs (from November 1) after China imposed controls on its rare earth exports.
This, along with US port fees and Chinese countermeasures, has raised the stakes.
Trump, however, called the meeting “fantastic” and “great for everybody.”
The president’s Asia trip has been focused on this trade file. His stop in Japan included meeting business leaders and addressing US troops, all part of his economic-focused diplomacy.
